Projects

Throughout my time at UW-Madison, I completed numerous projects under my Digital Studies certificate. Here are a few that I am especially proud of:

Move Me

Director/Editor

A project I completed in my Intro to Media Production class was a Move-Me. It was about a one minute short film that we produced as individuals. We had choice over the topic, and I chose to do mine on as a comedy of how to be sick and how not to be sick. I compiled fun clips of the right way and the wrong way to prevent sickness and edited it with appropriate music to match the tone of the piece. This was the first project I completed in this class and it really pushed me out of my comfort zone. Through lots of trial and error, I was able to figure out the basics of how to shoot and edit a video and I believe that it came together smoothly. It probably took about three weeks to completely finish which was a great amount of time due to me figuring out how to work a camera for the first time!

Explainer Video

Creator

Another project that I completed was done in Critical Internet Studies. The project had minimal requirements, and we were able to choose from an essay, twine, an explainer video and/or an app prototype. I chose to do my project on Youtuber burnout in the form of an explainer video. Based on my skills, I felt as if I could convey the needed information best through explaining it. I chose Youtuber burnout because in the world we live in, being a Youtuber is a new, but valid career option. I have not seen much discourse on how being a Youtuber can be extremely challenging, as it is typically painted as a career that is solely positive. Overall, I learned that burnout is a real thing, and due to Youtubers feeling like they always have to be "on" and portray a positive picture to their audience, they can burnout and feel as if what they're doing isn't enough.
